Trying for a baby is supposed to be an exciting time in your life, the start of your new family or maybe your growing family. However, if you’re one of the many couples who struggle, it can be one of the most stressful times for you. It’s important to remember that you’re not alone and actually, there is a lot of help and support out there to guide you into the best direction for you to start your family.

If you’re based in either Merseyside or Cheshire, there are plenty of options available to you if you want to seek expert fertility advice and treatment. In both Liverpool and Knutsford, we offer a wide range of assisted conception treatments, delivered by highly trained specialists using the latest technology.

So, how do you know when it’s time to stop trying and start seeking help? Is it my fault? Am I too old to have a baby? Am I doing something wrong? It isn’t an easy time but remember, stress won’t help the situation and could make things more difficult!

Where do you even begin? There are lots of things to consider before you look into fertility treatment. Here are a few helpful things to think about...

1. When is it the right time to start considering alternative options? Knowing when to start seeking help can be difficult. Consider factors such as your age, medical history and how long you’ve been trying for. The NHS say that before the age of 35 you’re more likely to conceive, after the age of 35 you could encounter more risks and should think about booking a fertility consultation.

2. What’s your diet looking like? Eating healthily and cutting out alcohol and smoking could help you conceive. Excessive drinking can affect the quality of a man’s sperm and smoking is also known to reduce a woman's fertility. You should also monitor your weight. Your chances of conceiving can be affected by too much or too little body fat.

3. What next? If you feel like giving up, it’s probably time to start looking for other options, which thankfully, there are plenty of! From surrogacy to artificial insemination to donor embryos to IVF, you’re sure to find the perfect method for you and your family.

4. Once you’ve decided on your treatment, you need to choose a clinic you’re comfortable with. To determine which is best for you, you might want to consider the location, other patient reviews and whether they have a female doctor. Seeking fertility treatment can be a scary time for some people, so having a clinic you feel comfortable with will help make the whole process a little easier.

5. Finally, it’s important you get some support and advice from a professional. They are able to guide you to the best decision for you and your family with their knowledge and expertise.
